The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is a professional undergraduate degree that trains students in Ayurveda, India’s traditional system of medicine, combining ancient healing principles with modern medical science. The program typically spans 5½ years, including 4.5 years of academic study and a compulsory 1-year internship where students gain hands-on clinical experience. The BAMS curriculum covers subjects such as Ayurvedic fundamentals, human anatomy and physiology, Dravyaguna (herbal pharmacology), Panchakarma therapy, and clinical practice in various specialties. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to register and practice as Ayurvedic physicians, work in hospitals, research,
